I was diagnosed with breast cancer in both my breasts in 2014. My children were only 3 and 6. I had chemotherapy then a Bilateral mastectomy and all my left side lymph nodes removed. Because I needed radiotherapy to my left side and my armpit I wasn't allowed immediate reconstruction. My surgeon said it would have to wait for 12-18 months. So I had to learnt to live without my breasts. Totally flat. I've got many different types of prostheses. From the softies they give you in hospital to expensive "contact prosthesis" and swim prothesis, and knitted knockers and Aqua knitted knockers. I joke about "foob bingo" - I have house! I wear knitted knockers around 80% of the time. I absolutely love them. They fit in all my post surgery bras and are light enough to wear with strapless bras. The beauty of the service provided is that they are free, many other prothesis are very expensive.

The day I discovered "Aquas" was a joyous day for me. I absolutely LOVE to swim. It's my favourite thing. I love to swim on my own and with my kids. It's because I feel myself and carefree again. That's tricky after a cancer diagnosis. The Aquas work great in all my costumes, tankinis and even bikinis. I actually have 2 different sizes because bikinis work better with a smaller pair. My Aquas are always in the pool and in the sea!

A year after my initial diagnosis, when it could have been time to consider reconstruction we discovered my cancer had spread. This meant more surgery more chemo and it will mean more radiotherapy. This also means I will never be able to have reconstruction. Therefore I will live flat for the rest of my life, however long or short that may be. So my attitude is - let's rock the life I have left. Cancer can't stop me. I need to stay confident and do all the things that matter to me.

Knitted knockers are a big part of my confidence. Cancer treatment can effect your weight which effect your confidence. I recently ordered a larger pair of knitted knockers to wear on the catwalk at a Breast cancer care fashion show. I felt amazing and it was one of the best days of my life. In front of over 400 people I felt "normal" and beautiful.

I am in a support group called flat friends, for women living without one or both breasts after mastectomy. When we have a new member and they ask for prothesis advice I always recommend Knitted knockers and Aquas. It's great to spread the news! They come so beautifully packaged and it's obvious they are made with love. Many of our ladies are moved to tears when they receive their parcels. It's not an exaggeration to say that it's a life Changing service that knitted knockers provide. I'm eternally grateful.
